Quote of the day

This is taken from Justashotaway's diary at Daily Kos. He was talking with his friend from small town PA (you know, one of those bitter gun folks) about his thoughts on Pres. Obama's press conference:

I ask him if he thought President Obama was trying to do too much, too quickly. I ask him what he thinks about President Obama trying to fix health care, and energy, and education all in one big push.

The guy says, "Hey, I didn't vote for him. But he's right. You can't put out a forest fire with a bucket."

I agree. We've got big problems, we need big solutions, and we need them right now.

In spite of his Republican leanings, Ryan can't resist. He says, "Damn right. Go big or go home. That's what he's there for."

*emphasis on money quote mine.

Just odd

but could be good. Variety just posted this article on casting for a new Three Stooges movie.

Poetic Justice

Madoff style. Some dude won the lottery by playing Madoff's prison number. I love it!

Go Cougars!

Here is the evidence I've been looking for to back up my affinity for younger men. Finally!

Spring!

What a difference a little sunshine makes. I'm ushering in the first day of Spring by only thinking happy thoughts today -- well, trying :)

No negative political stories (and there are a bunch from this week).
No rants.

This is how the First Lady is celebrating the first day of Spring. Love her (and I'm quite partial to her husband too). I'm going to plant the free tree I got from buying the movie Wall-e...somewhere.

I do have to mention the tragic passing of Natasha Richardson. Broadway dimmed its lights last night for a minute in her memory. My heart goes out to her family, especially her husband and two boys.

I've been busy at work with some writing assignments. Good for me - bad for my sad, lonely blog. I've been interviewing some people/companies for our Brides mag...kind of makes me want to get married! I was just thinking the other night that the only guy that really wanted to marry me needed a green card - and he's gay.

Oh -- I've decided to have a "signature color". Yes, it's pink. No, not blush or bashful. Mine is bright, bold, bombastic fuschia! Look for it.

Just for Fun

Here are some out takes (posted on The Daily Dish) from Ricky Gervais filming Sesame Street w/ Elmo. LOL!

Coming Soon...

a rant on the Israeli Lobby, AIPAC and the Chas Freeman scandal.

One Down

How many more to go?

Bernard Madoff was sent to jail today.

Hurray for the Polar Bears!

Last week the Senate voted to take out harmful Endangered Species Act regulations put in place by the Bush reign.

Don't mess with the Polar Bears. They'll eat you. I hear they're especially partial to Republican meat.

Here is a press release from Defenders of Wildlife.

Some Good News

Three members of the House sent Pres. Obama a nice little letter vowing to *shock warning* work togther to get a health care bill passed this year. Yes, they were all Dems, but that's just crazy talk.

Day 51

Here are two versions of his schedule of events for the day (1 & 2).

A few items that are noteworthy:

The First Lady is speaking at the Intl Women of Courage Award Ceremony on the same day that Pres. O signs an exec order forming a Council on Women & Girls. Girl Power!

A House-Senate subcommittee (why does it sound like they meet in a basement?) are hearing about Russ Feingold's (D-WI) bill that would bar Governor's from being able to appoint Senators. Hmm...I wonder what brought that one up?

Oh, and it's Wednesday. That means Cocktail Party night at the WH!

We're at the halfway mark of the President's first 100 days. Here is an great article from The Guardian on how one Brit thinks he doing.

How do you think he's doing?

Celeb Chef News

Iron Chef Cat Cora is preggers...and then some. Congrats!

DB Watch

As in douchebag. Today's is David Addington, former Chief of Staff and legal counsel to Dick Cheney. Apparently, he's having a hard time finding a job. :(

Gun Control

Only let Republicans have them.

In Oklahoma, a 13-year-old gets kicked out of a hunting class for supporting Obama - and he can't even vote! Full story here.

Kudos to the ODWC for doing the right thing!

The Religious Wrong

I don't pretend to understand the Catholic faith and have issues with organized religion, but is the Vatican seeming more and more on the crazy fringe lately? I read this yesterday and I'm dumbfounded.

Yoo Hoo!

One of my least favorite people in the world, John Yoo, is making news again. The Daily Beast ran this piece yesterday about a potential new development in the torture memo saga.
(Hat tip: Sullivan, again.)

The money quote:
It is widely suspected that the Yoo memos were requested as after-the-fact legal cover for draconian policies that were already in place (“CYA memos”). If the Justice Department internal probe concludes this is the case, that could have clear consequences for the current debate surrounding the Bush administration’s accountability for torture.

Don't tease me. I would love it if this yahoo got his license revoked and did some jail time. I'm not holding my breathe, but it would really make me happy. Or even better, he pleads out and turns in the goods on Cheney & Co. Ooh...

"Overjoyed"

Last week I watched the "In Performance at the White House" where Pres. and Mrs. O gave Stevie Wonder the Gershwin Award for Lifetime Achievement. Since then, I've had this song stuck in my head. I was singing it when I woke up this morning, so thought I would share the lyrics with you.

Over time, Ive been building my castle of love
Just for two, though you never knew you were my reason
Ive gone much too far for you now to say
That Ive got to throw my castle away

Over dreams, I have picked out a perfect come true
Though you never knew it was of you Ive been dreaming
The sandman has come from too far away
For you to say come back some other day

And though you dont believe that they do
They do come true
For did my dreams
Come true when I looked at you
And maybe too, if you would believe
You too might be
Overjoyed, over loved, over me

Over hearts, I have painfully turned every stone
Just to find, I had found what Ive searched to discover
Ive come much too far for me now to find
The love that Ive sought can never be mine

And though you dont believe that they do
They do come true
For did my dreams
Come true when I looked at you
And maybe too, if you would believe
You too might be
Overjoyed, over loved, over me

And though the odds say improbable
What do they know
For in romance
All true love needs is a chance
And maybe with a chance you will find
You too like i
Overjoyed, over loved, over you, over you

3 Reasons I Decided to NOT Cancel Cable

One.

Two.

Three.

Game on.

Our favorite pantsuit-wearing SOS has been a very busy lady this week. According to this article in The Guardian, she isn't playing around while introducing our new multi-front anti-Iran policies.

Yes, I know I have been hyper-critical of HRC and not her biggest fan (even invoking hateful swearing rants toward her during the primary). In my defense, I never said she wasn't smart or that I didn't like her personally. I just didn't agree with the way she was running her campaign (and not managing her husband) and I didn't think she should be POTUS. In short, I wanted my guy to win.

I think she has the best cred to be Sec of State and will do a fantastic job. The woman has balls. I wouldn't want to be her opponent in a foreign policy debate, would you?

Science...who? what?

President Obama (hee, that still makes me giggle with joy) is expected to sign a bill on Monday lifting the ban on stem cell research funding, the Washington Post reports.

Summer Blockbuster preview

Here is a new trailer out for the next Harry Potter movie coming out in July! I can't wait!

Where in the World is Hillary?

My friend Mark and I have been trying to keep track of where our Secretary of State has been traveling. She's a busy woman, but I just found this interactive map to help us keep track!

NoStigmas

NoStigmas™ is a movement dedicated to raising awareness and erasing stigmas associated with suicide and mental illness.

I wanted to give a shout out to my friend Jake who started this cause that is very dear to him. Visit the Facebook page to join the group and find out more.

The Mormons are coming!

I just read this article that shows an internal Church of Latter Day Saints email blast rallying their Illinois followers to call Springfield and voice opposition to the Civil Unions Bill.

This is the same campaign that got Prop 8 passed in CA. Not in my state! Follow this link to find your legislators contact info.

The hearing was this morning, but we can still make our voices heard.

"So am I."

Our Commander-in-Chief (can we call him Chief for short?) does a weekly web address on You Tube. I write this as a reminder to myself.

Here is this past week's address. At about 3:15 mins in, he starts throwing down the gauntlet and at minute 4:00, basically says "bring it". I love it.

Supreme Lady

Last night, former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor was a guest on The Daily Show. She rocks!

Part One.

Part Two.

Sir Teddy

British Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, addressed a joint session of Congress today, during which he announced that the Queen was issuing an honorary knighthood to Senator Edward Kennedy.

The Consumption.

Yes, that's me in a shower stall in Miami. Again.

I was probably as close to death as I've come in my 40 years (aside -- I'm sure -- from some heretofore unknown close calls while driving after a couple of drinks), but I didn't know it yet.

We were performing on New Year's Eve-eve at the new Crobar in Miami, South Beach (see pic), had NYE off, then had two shows on New Year's Day -- one in Miami and one in Orlando. I had just made the transition to a full-time "job" job with the Joffrey, but was still keeping all of my restaurant shifts during the 2-weeks-notice period, plus rehearsing for our Florida tour. Needless to say, I was a bit overworked, overtired and looking forward to a mini-vacation in between shows.

I was subsisting on Coldeeze and naps, but I was really skinny! The first show went well enough except for the fact that they kept reducing the size of our stage and then "forgot" to readjust the lighting, so we performed basically in the dark. Oops! We kicked ass and had a ball, I'm just not sure anyone saw it.

Hurray - time to party...but I couldn't get up enough energy to do anything. The next day I got progressively worse until at a large dinner with local sponsors I started uncontrollable crying at the table. Luckily, the gay sitting next to me was a doctor and told Circuit Mom & Dad what drugs to get me, we went to the drug store and straight back to the hotel. I was in bed, sick and crying, at 9:30. Happy New Year!

I slept until it was time to leave for our first show, and then slept in a make-shift dressing room until it was time to perform. This number included lip-synching (which I still cannot do unless literally singing). The dj forgot to reduce the bpm's, so the music was uber-fast. I couldn't breathe. Close to the end, I started to black out. I remember looking for someone in the crowd I knew, so they could catch me when I fell of the stage. In slow motion, I looked to Matthew for help. (My choreographer -- hey Todd! -- said this was the only time he'd ever seen me forget my steps!) Somehow I made it through to the end and, once off stage, promptly collapsed.

Security thought I was on drugs and wanted to kick me out. The next hours are a blur. I was on so much nighttime cold medication that I slept for the entire trip to Orlando. They woke me up to get ready for our last show. I assume it went well -- don't really remember. We did go out late that night and I remember dancing and drinking, etc...in between lung-wrenching coughs. That night at our host house it really got bad. I was coughing so hard I couldn't sleep or breathe. My girlfriend was calling the airlines to change our flight home ASAP. I just wanted to sleep and didn't really care if I ever woke up. By propping me up on all the pillows (Weekend at Bernie's anyone?), Leigh rigged it so I could sleep sitting up and I made it through the night.

I found out upon getting home that I had walking pneumonia -- yikes! -- and missed another entire week of work.

Happy March!

Here are the numbers of the day...

64 = percentage of approval for Pres. Obama via latest RCP poll.

92 = number of interrogation tapes of terrorist suspects the CIA destroyed as cited in today's news.

9 = number of Office of Legal Counsel documents that were released by the Department of Justice pertaining to a lawsuit brought by the ACLU (aka "Secret Bush Memos"). I hate John Yoo.

Good news: Evil Blackwater (scratch that they rebranded to Xe) CEO Erik Prince resigns to follow other unrelated ventures. Good riddance, but it scares me to imagine what he might do next.

And the understatement of the day (yesterday actually) from Sec. of Defense Gates when describing the differences between the 43rd & 44th presidents:
Obama is "somewhat more analytical"!!!!!!!!!!!
